"Sake to Namida to Otoko to Onna" Romaji Lyrics

Wasurete shimaitai koto ya
Dou shiyou mo nai samishisa ni
Tsutsumareta toki ni otoko wa sake wo nomu no deshou

Nonde Nonde Nomarete nonde
Nonde Nomitsuburete nemuru made nonde
Yagate otoko wa shizuka ni nemuru no deshou

Tsutsumareta toki ni onna wa namida miseru no deshou
Naite Naite Hitori naite

Mata hitotsu onna no hou ga eraku omoete kita
Mata hitotsu otoko no zurusa ga miete kita
Ore wa otoko Nakitoosu nante dekinai yo

  1. Though I'm a woman and was explicitly taught, "This is a man's song!", it was the first I learned in Japan, and I still love it. I guess singing it at Karaoke is a little cheeky for a western woman, but I did it, in the days before there were Karaoke "boxes". It was much more fun to share these old Enka ballads with strangers at other tables. There was a strict protocol. When the hostess passed the mike to a tableful of carpenters, for example, all listened politely and gave the singer his due appreciation. When it was our table's turn we expected the same respect, even though we may have lacked the talent. American karaoke is catch-as-catch-can, while I prefer the old Japanese ways. 懐かしい
